WAVE-VECTOR SPACE METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE OPTICS NEAR AN EXCITON RESONANCE

摘要
The transmission/reflection problem of optics near a Frenkel exciton resonance (the so-called additional boundary condition or ABC problem) is reexamined from an entirely new k-space treatment that uses no boundary conditions. We show for the first time that the truly macroscopic nonlocal susceptibility must contain surface terms that previous macroscopic theories are incapable of including. We obtain a different solution to the problem, show the importance of the surface layer to a Frenkel exciton, and derive the ABC needed for a macroscopic real space approach.
