摘要
The phospholipid and sterol contents of plasma membranes isolated from stele and cortex of maize roots were compared. The major sterol present in both tissues was stigmasterol which was found in significantly higher quantities in the cortex (27.4 mug mg-1 membrane protein) compared to the stele (17.4 mug mg-1). Other sterols detected included sitosterol, campesterol and small quantities of cholesterol. The major phospholipids found were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylcholine (PC), with PC more abundant in the stele. The fatty acid composition indicated that the major fatty acid in both stele and cortex was 16:0 (palmitic), with others found in lesser amounts.
