Inhibitors of leukocyte adhesion have potential as antiphlogistics, antithrombotics, and immunosuppressants. The interaction of selectins and their membrane‐bound carbohydrate ligands is decisive for the initial phase of adhesion, and the sialyl Lewisx group 1 is a common ligand for all three selectins. Thus the ingenious chemoenzymatic synthesis of 1 and its analogues reported recently by Paulson, Wong, et al. has received much attention. (Figure Presented.)
