Dislocations have been observed and characterized by transmission electron microscopy in YBa2Cu3O7-delta single crystals and deformed oriented powders. In standard single crystals free from deformation treatment, dislocations are found to be generated from small-angle sub-grain boundaries. The parent boundary and the generated dislocations form 'huge' microstructures that may be very effective for vortex lattice pinning. Dissociation of dislocations and stacking-faults are observed in both types of samples and a mechanism is proposed to interpret them. Dislocation loops with Burgers vector out of the (001) plane are found together with the manifestation of a new superstructure, and a model of the enclosed stacking-fault is built.
