摘要
The autonomous contractility of ampullae which serve as accessory hearts in the compound ascidian Botryllus schlosseri is described. Fine structural details are presented for the single layer of endothelial cells comprising an ampulla. Ultramicroscopic filaments of 40 Å to 90 Å diameter, oriented circularly around the ampulla in basal zones of these cells, are implicated in the generation of the peristalses of the ampullae. © 1969 Academic Press, Inc.
