摘要
TiC coatings, obtained by chemical vapour deposition, on components for ball bearings present a solution for application in hostile environments. Static, dynamic and oscillating load tests were carried out on TiC-coated samples in order to determine reliable conditions in which these layers can operate. It appears that better resistance against fatigue and permanent deformation is obtained with thin TiC coatings of about 2 μm thickness. A chromium carbide interlayer is unfavourable on cemented carbide but is favourable when thick TiC coatings of 5-7 μm are necessary on steel substrates. © 1979.
