摘要：

Mechanical rupture of Heissner's membrane in the fourth turn of the guinea pig cochlea results in anatomic damage to certain structures of the lateral wall of the cochlear duct. The stria oascularis and spiral ligament atrophy from that point apicalward. The external sulcus cells and spiral prominence epithelium remain unchanged. Comparison of the atrophied state with the stria oascularis in the embryo and similar cells in the pars superior of the membranous labyrinth are made. Implications of these comparisons are discussed. © 1968, SAGE Publications. All rights reserved.
