摘要
The development of advanced titanium aluminides for aerospace applications is receiving attention due to their combination of high specific strength (low density), high melting temperature and resistance to oxidation. However, there still exists a degree of uncertainty concerning the Ti-Al binary phase diagram, specifically the phase relationships between the intermetallic compound Ti//3Al ( alpha //2) and the adjacent disordered alpha -Ti and ordered gamma -TiAl phases. In this work binary alloys of Ti-40, -42 and -45 percent Al were studied. The results indicate that the apparent invariant reaction observed during heating is related to transformation of the alpha //2 to alpha and that the eutectoid-like structure is produced by the decomposition of the high-temperature alpha phase via a cellular reaction. 6 Refs.
