STOICHIOMETRIC CATALYTIC DECOMPOSITION OF NITRIC-OXIDE OVER CU-ZSM-5 CATALYSTS

Copper cation exchanged ZSM-5 zeolites are effective catalysts for the NO decomposition reaction. The present studies have revealed that the conversion of the reaction NO → 1/2N2 + 1/2O2 is intrinsically stoichiometric, and complete conversion can be obtained over a Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst. Operated in this way the undesirable side reaction NO + 1/2O2 → NO2 can be avoided. The decomposition reaction was inhibited, but not poisoned, by 200 Torr of O2. © 1990 American Chemical Society.
