EFFECTS OF ELECTRON MASS VARIATIONS IN A STRONG ELECTROMAGNETIC-WAVE

摘要
The nonlinear interaction of a strong electromagnetic wave with a background plasma has been investigated taking into account relativistic electron mass variation. The excitation of plasma waves by the beating of two electromagnetic waves has been considered. The relevance of this investigation to the plasma-based beat wave accelerators has been discussed. In context with the laser wake field accelerator scheme, relativistic wake-field generation by an intense short laser pulse has been considered. The self-focusing of powerful electromagnetic beams has been investigated including the combined effects of the relativistic electron mass variation as well as the relativistic ponderomotive force driven electron density fluctuations. © 1990 IOP Publishing Ltd.
