摘要
Using recent reevaluations of the space density of interplanetary particles together with recent refinements of micrometeoritic theory, we calculate the expected number of FeNi unmelted and unablated micrometeorites at the terrestrial surface. Our semitheoretical values are several orders of magnitude smaller than would be necessary to explain currently collected particles that have been claimed to be micrometeorites. Polar snow deposits are not favorable locations for one to look for such particles, but new high-efficiency balloon techniques hold great promise. The exciting aim of collecting unaltered interstellar grains now appears possible in the not-too-distant future. © 1969.
