FLUIDIC LOGIC ELEMENT SAMPLE SWITCH FOR CORRELATION CHROMATOGRAPHY

A gas stream switch has been fabricated from two bistable fluidic amplifiers. In contrast to the usual application of Coanda wall attachment devices which must operate into fairly low impedences, this system has been used as a gas chromatographic sample switch at column head pressures of 800 mbars. As demonstrated in this report, the ability of this switch to reproducibly inject varying amounts of sample on command makes it ideally suited for correlation chromatography. Further efforts are being directed to developing a switch which will work at higher pressures for use with high speed packed column chromatography, also which will provide smaller sample widths at faster switching speeds for capillary column applications of correlation chromatography. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
