摘要
In the reported experiment, the luminescence and absorption properties of commercial samples of PBT and Hytrel yarn were determined; they showed major similarities with the comparable properties of PET and dimethyl terephthalate. Traces of surface oxidation were evident from comparison of fluorescence emissions and their similarities to those reproted for 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid. Photodegrdation of the Hytrel yarn in air and in nitrogen showed 76. 6 and 34. 6% losses of tensile strengths in air and nitrogen, respectively, after 10 hr of exposure. The possibility of sensitization of singlet oxygen formation by the terephthaloyl chromophores is one suggested mechanistic explanation for the rapid deterioration of the yarn.
