ON THE MECHANISM OF SPACE-CHARGE GENERATION AND NEUTRALIZATION IN A COAXIAL CYLINDRICAL CONFIGURATION IN AIR

摘要
Experimental results on the generation and neutralization of corona space charge during rapid changes in the voltage of the central conductor in a coaxial configuration are presented. Photographic observations and electrical measurements showed that during the application of a voltage pulse streamers were initiated from the central conductor and the region between the coaxial cylinders was filled with space charge. If the central conductor was suddenly grounded the space charge was neutralized by streamers of opposite polarity initiated from the central conductor. In the case of positive space charge the sudden grounding of the central wire led to a partial (44%) neutralization of the space charge whereas in the case of negative space charge all the space charge was neutralized.
