ULTRASTRUCTURE AND ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY OF MEMBRANOUS LOBE OF ANTENNA IN SPEOPHYES LUCIDULUS (COLEOPTERA) LARVA

The function of an antennal sensory receptor is studied by combining the techniques of electron microscopy and electrophysiology. The ultrastructure of the Lobe membraneux of the Speophyes larva is similar to that of the sensilla basiconica. A sensitivity of this receptor to odours of a different nature is shown by electrophysiology. It is therefore an olfactory receptor. The presence of numerous mitochondria in the proximal segment of the dendrite participating in chemoreception gives rise to a discussion on the origin of the nervous impulse. © 1969.
