KARYOTYPE STUDY OF DURIO ZIBETHINUS L

Durio zibethinus has n=14 chromosomes with median, submedian and almost subterminal primary constrictions, and four chromosomes with secondary constrictions. On basis of the karyotype, the species may not be considered a primitive one, as suggested by Corner in his theory on the origin of modern trees. © 1969 Martinus Nijhoff.
