Saline extracts of corpora cardiaca from adult male L. migratoria, when injected into 6-day-old adult males, cause an increase in the total haemolymph carbohydrate within 2 hr. These elevated levels return to normal within 4 hr. Concomitant with the increase in haemolymph carbohydrate there is a decrease in the glycogen and non-polysaccharide fractions of the fat body carbohydrate. Newly emerged males do not always show a measurable hyperglycaemic response, whereas mature and starved males never show a hyperglycaemic response to extracts of corpora cardiaca. The reasons for the lack of hyperglycaemic response in such males are discussed. © 1969.
