BEHAVIORAL-STUDY ON THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN TRAZODONE AND L-DOPA

Trazodone is a wide spectrum antidepressant drug with a mechanism of action different from that of tricyclic anti-depressants. A possible interference of this drug with brain dopamine was studied using the gnawing compulsion syndrome and the reserpine-induced muscular rigidity test in the mouse. Trazodone did not have any effect on these tests, whereas haloperidol and imipramine, which were used as comparison products, showed to inhibit and potentiate the responses to l-dopa. The results obtained indicate that trazodone does not interfere with cerebral dopamine. © 1979 The Italian Pharmacological Society.
