AN OBJECTIVE METHOD FOR EVALUATING TRAINING PROGRAMS IN COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY

Institutional attributes associated with doctoral programs in counseling were identified and scale values along 2 continua assigned by sophisticated judges. 1 variable was the judged importance of each attribute for training counseling psychologists, the other estimated accuracy with which the presence or absence of each attribute could be detected. 156 attributes were identified that represented a full range of values on the 1st variable, with low ambiguity, and that also were estimated to have very high levels of accuracy of detection. It is suggested that scales be developed and used to increase the objectivity of evaluations of training programs.
