DIAGENETIC AND POST-DIAGENETIC CHANGES IN THE COMPOSITION OF AN ARCHEAN PILLOW

The objective of this study is to evaluate the chemical changes that affect submarine volcanic rocks as a result of seafloor alteration and subsequent metamorphism. Previously, the effects of sea-floor alteration on modern submarine basalts were examined and part of that study included the analysis of a set of closely spaced, drill core samples taken through a single pillow. The sequel, reported in this paper, is based on the examination of a set of adjacent samples cored through an Archean pillow of approximately the same size and composition as the modern one.
