VAPOR-PRESSURE AND THERMODYNAMICS OF GASEOUS TICI AND TI2CI2

Vapor pressures of Tl2Cl2(g) are measured relative to TlCl(g) by Knudsen-effusion mass spectrometry in the temperature range 543 to 615 K. Pressures are determined by comparison with the known vapor pressure of TlCl(g). The vapor pressure of Tl2Cl2(g) can be represented by the equation: ln(p/atm) = 19.158 - 20315(K/T), (T = 543 to 615 K). Thermodynamic functions are presented for TlCl(g) and Tl2Cl2(g) based upon recent spectroscopic data. Third-law enthalpy and entropy changes in the process 2TlCl(s) = Tl2Cl2(g) are ΔHo(298.15 K) = (40.48 ± 1.3) kcalth mol-1 and ΔSo(298.15 K) = (39.26 ± 1.0) calth mol-1 K-1. The high-temperature thermodynamic properties of TlCl are discussed by comparison of these results with literature measurements. © 1979.
