Chelonia mydas and Eretmochelys imbricata were obtained from the Torres Strait. Altogether, 28 diseases were diagnosed including 12 bacterial, 4 parasitic and 4 nutritional diseases. Less common were those of genetic and environmental origin. Cultures of lesion material yielded a variety of bacteria viz Vibrio alginolyticus, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Flavobacterium sp., Micrococcus sp. and Bacillus sp.
