A three-lead test rig with a built-in neon condenser has been constructed to measure field-dependent critical currents of high T(c) superconductors (HTSs) at 27 K. The test rig can accommodate two test samples and the current leads are good up to almost-equal-to 250 A. This paper describes the test rig assembly and the experimental procedure for producing small quantities (almost-equal-to 100 cm3) of liquid neon. The test rig has been used successfully to measure 27 K critical currents of HTS coils and short samples in background magnetic fields up to 20 T.
