摘要
Research during the Cold War period has provided most of the evidence on the structure of beliefs about foreign policy and international relations. This paper asks whether these research findings are sufficiently robust to survive a period of unprecedented international change. The evidence used to test a scheme based on attitudes toward militant internationalism (MI) and cooperative internationalism (CI) is drawn from a 1992 survey of 2,312 American opinion leaders. Attitudes toward specific states and issues underwent considerable change with the end of the Cold War, but the MI/CI scheme continues to provide an effective way of depicting the structure of beliefs.
