摘要
Ethanol, βmercaptoethanol and several polyhydric alcohols were shown to protect Shigella flexneri Y6R against the effects of ionizing radiation. At optimal concentrations ethanol was the least effective and βmercaptoethanol the most effective; the polyhydric alcohols with 2, 3 and 4 hydroxyl groups per molecule all showed the same degree of protection. There was some qualitative correlation between effectiveness and the reactivities of these compounds with the hydroxyl radical. © 1969 Informa UK Ltd All rights reserved: reproduction in whole or part not permitted.
