A NEW METHOD FOR LARGE-AMPLITUDE SLOSHING PROBLEMS

摘要
An arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian boundary element method (ALE-BEM) is presented for analyzing large amplitude sloshing problems. The boundary element nodes on the free surface are able to be moved in an ALE manner so that element distortions are avoided. Good results are obtained even when the amplitude of water oscillation rises near to 100% of the original depth of the stationary water. A further study leads to the concept of a critical amplitude, eta(c), which is convenient for engineers to employ for judging when the small amplitude assumption can be used for sloshing problems without inadmissible errors.
