GENERALIZED VIBRATIONAL DENSITY OF STATES OF ICOSAHEDRAL AL71PD19MN10

摘要
The generalized vibrational density of states of icosahedral Al71Pd19Mn10 has been determined at 120 K for the first time using thermal neutron energy loss scattering. The sample was produced by slowly cooling the molten alloy. The neutron diffraction pattern of the sample showed that it was icosahedral with a very small admixture of periodic crystalline phases. The generalized vibrational density of states consists of two rather broad bands centered around 16 and 33 meV, with a shallow pseudogap between these bands near 22 meV. The slope of this frequency distribution follows a Debye spectrum in the accessible region from 8 up to 12 meV.
