Cuticles of larvae, white prepupae, and 2-day-old pupae of Calliphora have been extracted with 0·16 M Na2SO4, 6 M urea, and 1 N NaOH, and the extracted proteins have been analysed for their amino acid composition. The data show changes in composition that can be attributed to the sclerotization process. In addition to the common amino acids, β-alanine is found in the hydrolysate. © 1969.
