摘要
The caeca were demonstrated to contain the highest proteolytic activity of the cockroach intestinal system. Nearly twice the enzymatic activity of males was found in females. A protease with chymotrypsin-like specificities and a molecular mass of around 25 kDa was purified nearly to homogeneity by gel filtration and ion exchange chromatography on DEAE- and CM-cellulose. The N-terminal amino acid has been identified as isoleucin by using dansyl chloride. The enzyme seems to cleave the insulin B chain preferentially on the carboxyl side of aromatic and hydrophobic amino acids.
