SYSTEMATIC DEVIATION FROM T-LINEAR BEHAVIOR IN THE INPLANE RESISTIVITY OF YBA2CU3O7-Y - EVIDENCE FOR DOMINANT SPIN SCATTERING

The in-plane resistivity rho(ab) (T) and Hall coefficient R(H) (T) have been measured for YBa2Cu3O7-y single crystals with various oxygen concentrations. We find that for oxygen-depleted samples rho(ab)(T) deviates from T-linear behavior and that R(H)(T) deviates from 1/T below a temperature T(o) well above T(c). The deviation coincides with the development of a gap in the spin excitations seen in recent neutron and NMR studies. This is evidence that the charge transport in the CuO2 plane is determined by spin scattering.
