The radon levels in hospital premises in Northamptonshire were assessed following NRPB reports that levels were raised. Results indicated that levels were generally low, but above the action level of 400 Bq.m-3 in 6% of sites, and in need of immediate reduction in 1% of sites. These hot-spots can be very localised affecting an area as small as a single office. Staff in these areas could receive doses of 5 mSv or more per year, greater than the occupational exposure of radiographers, radiologists and other health workers.
