COMPLEXING ABILITY OF BIS(PHENYL-2-PICOLYLKETONATO)COPPER(II) TOWARDS DIFFERENT METAL(II) AND METAL(III) SALTS

A series of binuclear and trinuclear adducts of the bis(phenyl-2-picolylketonato)copper (II), [Cu(PPK)2], were prepared with Mg2+, Ca2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, La3+, Nd3+ and UO22+ salts. The metal halides gave the binuclear adducts, while the nitrates gave trinuclear adducts. The spectral data show that the planarity of the copper(II) environment in the binuclear adducts is higher, while that in the trinuclear adducts is lower compared to that in the mononuclear complex. Furthermore, the planarity of the adducts was found to be inversely proportional to the ionic radius of the M2+, ion in the binuclear adducts. The magnetic susceptibilities of [Cu(PPK)2CuX2] and [{Cu(PPK) 2}2Cu(NO3)2] complexes were studied over the temperature range of 300-766 K. The magnetic parameters were found to be related to the stereochemistry around the bridging ligand. © 1990.
