摘要
Demonstrates that preparatory processing produced by advance partially informative cueing in RT tasks which employ verbal stimuli can be viewed as rehearsal in short-term memory tasks. Exp. I with 12 undergraduates showed that the advance-cueing RT procedure produces decreased mean RT to cued stimuli and increased mean RT to noncued stimuli, suggesting that the cues evoke enhanced preparatory processing of cued stimuli. Exp. II with 9 undergraduates demonstrated that enhanced preparatory processing, like rehearsal, facilitates short-term recall and that attenuated preparatory processing, like attentuation of rehearsal by interpolated activity, impairs recall. The implications of the findings for rehearsal, are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved). © 1969 American Psychological Association.
