POLARIZED FTIR SPECTRA OF 9-FLUORENONE DISSOLVED AND ORIENTED IN A NEMATIC LIQUID-CRYSTAL

摘要
9-fluorenone dissolved and oriented in the nematic liquid crystal ZLI-1538 was studied by means of the polarization FTIR spectroscopy. It was found that its molecular long axis aligns very well along the nematic director. The differential IR linear dichroic (DIRLD) spectrum of the studied solution allowed one to distinguish between the longitudinal (B2) and the transversal (A1, B1) vibrations of 9-fluorenone. Some reassignments were done.
