摘要
Mechanistic aspects of the photo-oxidation of EPDM rubber are discussed. According to our results the photo-initiation step is undoubtedly due to impurities present in the crude rubber. These impurities include aliphatic and aromatic phenols, ethers, esters and ketones. The initiation step of a known impurity, viz. benzophenone, was studied. Although the mechanism of formation of the oxidation products is similar to that of other unsaturated rubbers a regeneration of the initiator in the absence of light is observed in contrast to other hydrocarbon polymers. This behavior is attributed to the presence of the ethylidene norbornene unit. © 1990.
