The chronic administration of ECS leads to a decrease of H3-NE in all parts of the brain, and an increase in dihydroxymandelic acid, dihydroxyphenylglykol, methoxy-hydroxymandelic acid, and methoxy-hydroxyphenylglykol. In the hypothalamus and the cerebellum there is also an increase in normetanephrine, which is not observable in the other parts of the brain. Uptake experiments in vitro showed a lower uptake of H3-NE in brain homogenates of ECS animals. ECS in combination with DMI-treatment did not increase the NM-values whereas combination of ECS with lithium led to an increase of DH compounds and a corresponding decrease of NM. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
