摘要
The clinical, bacteriologic, and radiologic data of 90 children with first urinary tract infections are presented. The study did not include patients with renal parenchymal damage or major structural abnormalities. Minor radiologic abnormalities were found in more than half the patients. The duration of follow-up was from 9 to 42 months. All of the children were treated for a period of 6 weeks. Recurrences were detected in 24 per cent of patients and were distributed over the entire follow-up period. The recurrence rate was 6 times greater (42 per cent) in patients with abnormal radiologic findings than in those with no demonstrable radiologic abnormalities (7 per cent). Recurrences were asymptomatic in half of the children. The importance of prolonged follow-up in children with even minor radiologic abnormalities is emphasized. © 1969 The C. V. Mosby Company.
