摘要
Data pertaining to the cause, location, number of fracture sites, comminution, and other facial bones fractured were collated for 523 mandibular fractures, not due to gunshot, reported by selected Army installations. 1. 1. Personal altercations were responsible for 43.7 per cent of the mandibular fractures, and vehicular accidents were associated with 25.8 per cent of the mandibular fractures. 2. 2. In 55 per cent of mandibles fractured there was only one fracture site. 3. 3. Comminuted mandibular fractures were reported in 18.5 per cent of the patients. 4. 4. The angle was the site most commonly fractured, with 31.3 per cent of the patients suffering mandibular fractures at this site. Other common mandibular fracture sites were the condyle (27.9 per cent), the anterior body (23.1 per cent), and the posterior body (21.6 per cent). 5. 5. Altercations and sports most frequently caused angle fractures, whereas vehicular accidents and falls most frequently resulted in condylar fractures. 6. 6. Other facial bones were fractured in 16.8 per cent of the patients; 67 per cent of these were the result of vehicular accidents. © 1968.
