Growth in young apple trees of the rootstocks MM. 106 and M. 7 was estimated by changes in d. wt., and growth in the different regions of the two rootstocks was compared. Changes in d. wt were compared with changes in extractable carbohydrates in MM. 106 trees. The seasonal variations in d. wt, extractable carbohydrates and residues, are discussed in relation to utilization of reserve and current assimilates in the different regions of plant during winter, autumn, spring and summer. © 1979, Annals of Botany Company.
