A STUDY OF THE WAVELENGTH AND POTENTIAL DEPENDENCE OF SURFACE-ENHANCED RAMAN-SCATTERING ON CU, AG, AND AU ELECTRODES

The wavelength dependence of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is measured with excitation wavelengths from the visible (488 nm) to the near-IR (1064 nm) region for pyridine adsorbed on roughened electrode surfaces of Cu, Ag, and Au. Visible wavelength spectra were recorded with a dispersive spectrometer, while for near-infrared spectra, an FT Raman spectrometer was used. The potential dependence of SERS was also measured for the three electrodes. The implications of the results on the various mechanisms proposed for the SERS effect are discussed.
