摘要
This work is a contribution to edge detection in images. The presented method is accomplished in two main steps. In the first one, a local (within a 3 x 3 window) threshold is selected and used to transform the multilevel image into binary. Special care is taken to select the optimum threshold value. In the second step, the existence of an edge point is verified by means of nonlinear filtering using Boolean functions. This is achieved by correlating the binary-valued image points with appropriately defined binary-valued spatial patterns. False edge points generated by noise are removed by means of another complementary filtering path based on the variance function. Results of the new Boolean Function Edge Detector (BFED) are compared with those of the Sobel algorithm.
