摘要
Morphology and respiratory properties of the blood were studied in five species of primates (squirrel monkey, rhesus monkey, pigtail monkey, baboon and chimpanzee). Red blood cells ranged from 4.5 million in the baboon to 6.7 million in the squirrel monkey. These two species also exhibited extreme values of hemoglobin concentration with 11.7 and 14.3 g/100 ml respectively. In all species the O2-Hb dissociation curve was S-shaped. Compared to humans, the affinity for O2 was reduced in all species (P50 (7.4) from 35.5 to 37.2 mm Hg) except in the chimpanzee (P50 = 26.4 mm Hg). The Bohr effect ranged from -.462 in the chimpanzee to -.550 in the baboon. With the exception of a high standard bicarbonate in the baboon, the data on CO2 transport for all five species was within the range of those obtained in humans. © 1969.
