FORMATION OF SUPERSATURATED SOLID-SOLUTION IN ZRO(2)-CEO(2) SYSTEM INDUCED BY MECHANICAL ALLOYING

摘要
A supersaturated solid solution of zirconia in ceria has been formed by mechanical alloying, starting from pure zirconia and ceria powders. The solute content was found to be enhanced from about 6 mole percent in equilibrium conditions to approximately 70 mole percent by milling. The energy storage in the milled materials is considered to be responsible for the phenomena.
