THE REACTION OF OXYGEN WITH THE HOT W(001) SURFACE STUDIED BY LOW-ENERGY ELECTRON-MICROSCOPY

摘要
Low-energy electron microscopy has been used to study the irreversible W(001)-O p(5 X 1)-p(2 X 2) surface transformation during oxygen deposition at 1050 K. Chains of p(2 X 2) nuclei form in a self-avoiding-random-walk pattern. It is concluded that oxygen diffusion is an important step in the reaction path to incorporation into the hot surface.
