ANOMALOUS BEHAVIOR OF THE FLUX LINE LATTICE OF VIBRATING HIGH-T(C) SUPERCONDUCTORS AT 30-K IN MAGNETIC-FIELDS PARALLEL TO THE CUO2 PLANES

We have measured the energy dissipation and pinning of the flux line lattice (FLL) of vibrating high-T(c) superconducting crystals as a function of temperature, magnetic field, and angle theta between field and CuO2 planes. For Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and oxygen-deficient (Y0.94Gd0.06)Ba2Cu3O6.83 superconductors and for theta approximately 0-degrees we observed an anomalous depinning of the FLL at approximately 30 K. This anomaly cannot be explained by a thermally activated depinning mechanism and suggests the existence of a phase transition of the FLL.
