FLUORESCENCE DECAY TIME CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPLEX BETWEEN ETHIDIUM BROMIDE AND NUCLEIC ACIDS

摘要
When ethidium bromide is complexed to DNA or RNA, ultraviolet light absorbed by the nucleic acid can migrate to ethidium, which fluoresces. The time intervening between absorption and emission has been measured. The times increase with the nucleotide-to-ethidium ratio and reach maxima of 23 nsec for DNA and 19.5 nsec for RNA. Polarization measurements indicate that energy is transferred to rigidly bound ethidium only. © 1969.
