Studies on CO2 removal from coal-fired power stations indicate that net efficiencies of 40 % are feasible. About 88 % of very clean CO2 can be bled off in the gaseous or liquid state of aggregation. This can be achieved with IGCC's employing water gas shift and physical absorption for CO2 separation or, potentially, H-2/CO2 separation with membranes and the usual gas cleaning upstream of the gas turbine combustion chamber. The pre-basic design study is based solely on proven components, known processes and experience gained from the construction of the combined cycle power plant components of the IGCC demonstration plants in Europe.
