DNA POLYMERASE ACTIVITY IN METHOTREXATE PLUS UTIDINE TREATED TETRAHYMENA

摘要
The specific activity of DNA polymerase of Tetrahymena can be increased by treatment of the cells with methotrexate plus uridine. The increase does not occur in the presence of protein synthesis inhibitors and is also affected by an inhibitor of RNA synthesis. The specific activity of DNA polymerase can also be increased by treatment of Tetrahymena with ultraviolet irradiation. It is suggested that the increase in enzymic specific activity represents de novo synthesis of DNA polymerase in response to agents which cause repairable damage to Tetrahymena DNA. © 1969.
