PRE-ELECTROCHEMICAL ETCHING TREATMENT TO IMPROVE NEUTRON RECOIL TRACK DETECTION

摘要
Discharge spots that appear in neutron-irradiated plastic foils after electrochemical etching (ECE) are due not only to induced recoil particles but also to inclusions and contaminants on the surface film of the foils. The latter factor seriously affects the evaluation of the dosimeter response and contributes to the background. An original method is presented to remove this surface film by a suitable solvent before applying the electrochemical etching process. The pre-electrochemical etching treatment produces a reasonable improvement since it results in a reproducible response and low background measurements. © 1979.
