The performances of supersonic R11 ejectors have been experimentally studied over a large range of mixing chamber to nozzle throat area ratio PHI. For a given compression ratio r, in the plane giving the mass ratio U as a function of the motoring ratio xi, it has been shown that an envelope of the maxima of the curves at constant PHI, occurs corresponding to the xi(optPHI) values. Furthermore, there exists on this envelope an optimal value for PHI for which the corresponding xi(optAB) gives the absolute maximum of U: i.e. the cooling efficiency epsilon(f,max). These results permit optimal design of the system when the temperatures of the sources are known.
